Authorities seize MVR 15M worth smuggled cocaine

Maldives Customs Service have confiscated a large amount of cocaine being smuggled into the island nation.

A Brazilian female, aged 29, had smuggled the illicit narcotic substances during her arrival from home country to the Maldives.

Authorities report her luggage included suspicious content, which were discovered as cocaine upon further inspection. Customs report the substance tested positive for Cocaine.

The confiscated content weighed 4.5 kilograms, which hold a street value of MVR 15 million.

Customs confirmed handing the suspect along with confiscated substance to Maldives Police Service for further investigation.

This is the tenth occasion where a mule attempting to smuggle cocaine to Maldives has been apprehended this year. Customs reported overall attempts to smuggle cocaine to Maldives amounted to a total of 17 kilograms.
