Parliament minority leader and Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem has declared the opposition's readiness for the possibility of a no-confidence move against Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

Saleem, who is a Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) member claimed that the opposition was vying for any opportunity to oust the current Parliament Speaker, he hinted was a likely possibility in light of the ongoing clash within the ruling party factions.

An urgent motion was submitted by Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam in relation to the nude videos of alleged political figures.

Multiple videos and photos of several political higher-ups have, in recent weeks, rotating across various social media platforms.

Meanwhile, most of the political figures who were alleged with gross sexual misconduct had denied the accusations.

The motion by Naifaru MP was dismissed by Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed during Monday's sitting, a move that resulted in members of the opposition protesting inside parliament chambers after which they boycotted the session.

Speaking to the press outside the parliament, Saleem accused ruling party of sidelining and silencing the opposition's voice within the chambers.

Moreover, Saleem alleged that the Parliament Speaker was actively rejecting motions that were by nature against members of the governing party.

Saleem's accusations had also extended on the divided governing party's collaboration over matters that violate or contradict Islamic teachings and tenets.

"If the ruling party is divided, and if we receive an opportunity to oust Parliament Speaker from his position, we will not hesitate to act on it, we will oust him [Nasheed]", Saleem said.

Meanwhile, the opposition claims ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was blocking all attempts by parliament minority to address the most recent scandal due to the involvement of several governing party politicians as well as the alleged involvement of Nasheed's brother, Nazim Sattar, a local advocate.

Recently a video in which an individual believed to be Sattar was seen engaged in sexual activity with an expatriate, believed to be a Bangladeshi national, started making rounds on social media platforms.

Sattar had since denied of his involvement in the scandal, however many members of the public have demanded for his immediate apprehension.
