Authorities are searching for a crew member who went missing from a fishing vessel which caught fire on Wednesday.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) spokesperson Major Adnan Mohamed said the crew is claiming that one of their colleagues is missing after the fire broke out aboard the vessel, anchored near the infamous garbage and industrial island Thilafushi on Wednesday morning.
Rescuers are now searching for the missing man while firefighters are still working to put out the fire.
"There are claims that one of the crew members is missing. We've been searching for since yesterday [Wednesday], Adnan said.
The MV Barosa was formerly owned by the state fisheries company.
