The government of Saudi Arabia assured the Maldives that the kingdom will always remain a close development partner of the archipelago.

Saudi Arabia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf conveyed the sentiment during a meeting with his Maldivian counterpart, Abdulla Shahid, who is currently on an official trip to the kingdom.

During the sit-down, Minister Shahid emphasised President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s commitment to fostering close ties with Saudi Arabia, noting that the two countries' relations are rooted in the shared values of Islamic, cultural and historical links.

He further expressed gratitude to the government of Saudi Arabia for the country's contribution towards the socio-economic development of Maldives.

Foreign Minister Al-Assaf in turn reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to strengthening the historic and brotherly relations between the two countries, further assuring that Saudi Arabia will always remain as a close development partner of the archipelago.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by the Secretary of Policy at President’s Office Aminath Shuana, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Shiaan and other officials from the foreign ministry, and the Maldivian embassy in Saudi Arabia.
