HPA announces 159th COVID-19 death

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Monday revealed that 159th COVID-19 related fatality in Maldives.

According to HPA, an 83-year-old Maldivian female admitted to the Hulhumale Medical Facility (HMF) passed away. The victim was declared dead at 0637hrs in the morning.

The ongoing surge of cases has drastically increased the death rate of the virus, with 86 people passing away in May so far. This makes up over 50 percent of fatalities in Maldives.

The country recorded its first COVID related death on April 29, 2020.

Authorities have tightened measure to curb the spread. This includes increased duration and extended curfew in addition to travel restrictions.
