Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday granted a plot from the Diplomatic Enclave in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale' to establish the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid handed over the official document to UAE's Ambassador-Designate to Maldives Dr Saeed Mohamed Ali Al Shamsi, at a ceremony held at the ministry.
According to the foreign ministry, plots from the Diplomatic Enclave are allocated under a 'reciprocity' policy, only to the countries that released land plots from within their territory to establish Maldivian consulates.
The government has so far granted land from the enclave to India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and China.
The Diplomatic Enclave is located in the second phase of Hulhumale' to alleviate congestion in capital Male' and to conveniently facilitate security measures for embassies located within close proximity to each other.
