The government of Thailand will waive visa for Maldivian tourists from April 14 onwards.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maldivians who travel to Thailand for tourism purposes can stay in the country for a period of 30 days without obtaining a visa.

In a press release, the ministry stated that the government was working to ease visa requirements for Maldivians travelling abroad, with current efforts focused on other East Asian countries as well.

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid had discussed a visa waiver arrangement between Maldives and Thailand, with the Thai delegation at the sidelines of the Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+40) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Thailand is a popular tourist destination for Maldivians, while many also visit the country for medical treatment and business purposes.

Currently, Maldivians have to pay a fee of around MVR 1,000 to obtain visas for Thailand.
