Police have launched an investigation into a case where two men have been accused of raping a 16-year-old girl.
The case was reported to the police by the victim's family.
Local media outlet Mihaaru cited the girl's family, that the victim had been abducted by two men when she left her college campus around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night. It is unclear whether the perpetrators had taken her away in a car, or the location where they assaulted her.
An anonymous source from the victim's family told Mihaaru that hospital tests proved that she was raped.
"We spent all of last night at the police, reporting the case," said another family member.
According to the family, one of the perpetrators was an acquaintance of the girl.
The victim lives in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale with her family. Mihaaru cited her family that she had informed them of the attack after returning home that night.
"We found out around 10 o' clock that night. We immediately took her to the hospital for the tests," said the source, explaining that they had brought her to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male.
