Investigation starts into Nasheed's security breach

Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services (241 Committee) started an investigation into the security breach on Majilis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed on Saturday night.

In the press release by committee after the meeting ended, they decided to inquire into how Majilis Speaker's security was compromised. This was particularly priorities as he is the head of the one of the three main state powers.

The committee meeting was held behind closed doors, and not accessible to the public or the media.

Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla had said on Saturday night an attack on Nasheed was an attack on one of the powers of the state. She said it was one of the highest priority issues at the Majilis now.

"We can see there was a security breach. The inquiry by 241 Committee is the parliament's number one priority right now," Eva had said.

In the attack near Nasheed's residence on Thursday night he was injured gravely. He had undergone several life saving surgeries at ADK hospital and is currently being treated in the ICU. His surgeries took over 16 hours.

Four other people also got injured in this targeted terrorist attack.

Three suspects have been arrested so far in relation to the attack on Nasheed.

In the 241 Committee held on Thursday night, it was decided to get foreign assistance on catching the perpetuators.
