Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Friday morning, met with Deputy Prime Minister for Romania's Strategic Partnerships' Implementation, Ana Birchall.
At the meeting held at the Victoria Palace, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the governments discussed existing bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
Romania currently holds the presidency for the Council of the European Union.
Minister Shahid congratulated the Deputy Prime Minister for the fulfilling role undertaken by Romania as the President.
Moreover, the ministers also discussed initiatives to enhance collaboration between Maldives and Romania in areas such as healthcare service, disaster risk management, trade investments, education, information technology and countering terrorism and violent extremism.
Shahid also expressed the desire to further promote Maldivian fish products in European markets.
This November, the two countries will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
"In addition to bilateral issues Minister will take up issues including visa, reduction of 24 percent duty on our fish products and increased assistance and investment from the EU to the Maldives", noted Director of Communications at Foreign Affairs, Miuvan Mohamed
The delegation arrived in the country, on a four-day official visit, to hold discussions on increasing cooperation between the two countries and explore new areas of common interest.
