President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih declared the upcoming Sunday as a public holiday, despite it not being the first day of Ramadan.

According to the calendar, the first day of the Islamic fasting month Ramadan falls on Monday. However, the moon sighting will take place on Saturday night.

President Solih made this decision to allow more time for people to undertake preparations for the month of Ramadan, as per a tweet by the spokesperson for President's Office.
