Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen visited Oman on Monday to participate in the Global Meeting to Accelerate Progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Target 3.4 on Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Mental Health.
The Global Meeting, organised by World Health Organisation (WHO), aims to improve national responses to address NCDs and mental health conditions, to reduce premature mortality and scale-up interventions to reach SDG target 3.4 by 2030.
During the meeting, Minister Ameen will deliver remarks on the success in addressing NCDs by controlling the marketing of unhealthy foods and drinks to children and implementation of BMS code. He will also address the issue of climate change and sea-level rise.
Moreover, the minister will take part in various segments such as the High-level Segment for Member States and United Nations Organisations, as well as non-state actors, at the level of Ministers and heads of organisations.
A Multi-stakeholders Partners' Forum is also scheduled to take place in the meeting, in addition to Regional Meetings, side events and side visits.
By the end of the meeting, each country will devise a set of interventions that will put their country on a sustainable path to attain SDG target 3.4 by 2030 and commit to fulfilling the commitments made by heads of state in the Political Declarations of the UN General Assembly in 2011, 2014 and 2018.
The four-day meeting set to conclude on December 12, hosted by the Oman government, will be held in Muscat, the capital city of the country.
