Parliament approves of Azeema as High Commissioner of Maldives to India

According to the Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee report, Azeema was approved to the post following a vote of 79 members present.

Parliament today has approved the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Additional Secretary Aishath Azeema as the High Commissioner of Maldives to India.

According to the Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee report, Azeema was approved for the post following a vote of 79 members present.

Azeema began her career in public service in the Maldives in 1988, shortly after completing her GCE O' Levels. She has also served as the Maldives Ambassador to China from 2019 to 2023. She currently serves as the Additional Secretary, overseeing the India Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Azima was appointed as the High Commissioner of Maldives to India after Ibrahim Shaheeb, former High Commissioner's term was completed.

Shaheeb was appointed as High Commissioner to India in November 2022 during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.

Prior to his appointment in India, Shaheeb was the Maldives Ambassador to Singapore for one year. His diplomatic career, which began in 1991, has seen him serve in various capacities, including as Chief of Protocol in 2018.
