The Maldives will host the 8th Session of the Islamic Conference of Health Ministers (ICHM), organised by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in 2021.

Ministry of Health made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing that the decision was made during the 7th ICHM being held in Abu Dhabi from December 15 to 17.

Health Minister Abdulla Ameen participated in the conference and submitted a resolution prepared by the Maldivian government regarding the challenges caused by anti-vaccination campaigns to OIC member states. The resolution sought to bring the issue to OIC's attention and appealed member states to work together in order to reach solutions.

The 7th ICHM is being held under the theme 'Quality of Life', with the aim of assessing the health status of OIC member countries, including key health issues, challenges, developments and concerns. The conference also assessed the extent to which the OIC Strategic Health Programme of Action was implemented in the member states.

The last session of the ICHM was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in December 2018.
