Abbas Shareef has been appointed as the new Prosecutor General (PG) of Maldives.
Shareef has been serving as the Legal Secretary at the President's Office, and has previously served as a Judge at the High Court.
The new PG's letter of appointment was presented to him today by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held at the President's Office.
While there were six applicants to the post of PG, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had nominated Abbas alone, and forwarded his name to parliament for approval. The nomination was reviewed by the Judiciary Committee of parliament, which awarded Abbas a score of 93.91 percent following his interview.
Yesterday, the Parliament unanimously voted in favour of Shareef's appointment as PG.
