Zakat House spent over MVR 1 million on providing medical assistance to individuals in need.
Maldives Zakat House, a government agency mandated to fortify the Maldivian Zakat system, spent over MVR 1 million on medical assistance provided to individuals in need last month.
Sharing statics for the previous month, a practice it started this past March, Maldives Zakat House detailed that a total of MVR 1,632,265 was spent on medical assistance provided to 180 individuals.
Details further show that 35 percent of this amount was directed towards cancer patients, six percent towards individuals requiring brain surgery, seven percent towards kidney disease treatment, 5.2 percent towards heart surgeries, and the remaining 48 percent on other medical requirements.
However, some of the expenses listed for last month were for individuals who got their aid approved in April.
In addition to medical expenses, Zakat House also spent on administrative staff salaries and Zakat al-Fitr. This included MVR 262,266.50 for staff salaries and MVR 41,937.71 for Zakat.
Ministry of Islamic Affairs also decided to donate another USD 100,000 from the Zakat Fund to the people of Palestine, early last month.
