Land has been allocated on Wednesday for the construction of an additional mosque in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
In a ceremony held at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the agreement to allocate a land of 18,720sqft was signed by HDC Managing Director Mauroof Jameel and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
The Ministry said that the mosque will be built through funds donated from a private donor. A separate agreement is to be signed with the donor, after which a contractor for the project will be decided upon.
The ministry said that construction of the mosque must be completed within 24 months of the land being handed over.
Once completed, the new mosque will accommodate 2500 to 3000 persons praying in congregation.
The mosque has been designed including classrooms to teach Quran in, as well as a library. Air conditioning at the mosque will be powered through solar energy.
The ministry said that some other mosques being built in Hulhumale' will be completed within this year.
