Maldives Customs Service has extended the deadline for exclusion of vape and energy drinks from duty exemption until November.

In a post shared on social media X, Customs said that the deadline for exclusion of products containing tobacco and devices used for smoking from duty exemption has been extended till the 1st of November.

Previously, the deadline had been set for today. Reasons for the postponement have not been revealed so far.

In an interview with State media PSM, Customs Deputy Chief Superintendent Ahmed Niyaz earlier said that two main changes will be brought into effect under the amendments to the general regulations.

One of these changes is removing duty exemption from some types of goods imported to the Maldives. Among these, Niyaz listed energy drinks, vape products and cigarettes.

The other change is that the goods brought in for personal use up to MVR 10,000 will be exempt from duty charges.
