HDC Chief Business Officer and Head of Media Department Ahmed Yameen has filed a complaint with the Employment Tribunal over the company’s decision not to renew his contract.

Yameen, who was appointed as Chief Business Officer in December 2023 on a one-year contract, was informed in January, one month after the contract expired, that it would not be renewed.

Speaking to Mihaaru News last night, Yameen said that he had completed the appraisal process to become a permanent employee under former HDC Managing Director Fazul Rasheed and that Fazul had decided to make his position permanent.

"So I believe I am now a permanent employee," Yameen stated, claiming that his dismissal was unjustified. He also questioned the basis for the company’s decision to inform him of non-renewal a month after his contract had lapsed.

"I have not been asked about the ongoing case [Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme], nor has there been any allegations raised against me in the matter," he said.

HDC decided not to renew Yameen’s contract after suspending him in connection with an investigation into the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme. He was suspended during the investigation and then later had the suspension lifted.

Alongside him, HDC Chief Development Officer (CFO) Abdullah Faid was also dismissed.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and police are investigating allegations that MWSC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, brother of former HDC MD Fazul Rasheed, was allocated a plot of land before meeting the scheme’s requirements. Fazul was suspended in connection with the case and later resigned.

Authorities have not yet disclosed details of the ongoing investigation.
