PSM Managing Director Zeena Zahir has said that, in addition to the donations collected through the donation boxes placed around Male' region, MVR 1.8 million had been collected by 13:00 hrs.
The telethon "Palestine aa eku Dhivehin," which translates to "Maldivians in Support of Palestine," organized by state media, Public Service Media (PSM), has raised over MVR 1.8 million (USD 116,894.21) within six hours.
The telethon which commenced at 08:00 hrs will proceed until midnight.
PSM Managing Director Zeena Zahir told Mihaaru News that, in addition to the donations collected through the donation boxes placed around Male' region, MVR 1.8 million had been collected by 13:00 hrs.
"We have so far received MVR 1.8 million to our BML MVR and USD accounts collectively. This includes USD 5,754," Zeena said.
The counting of funds collected in the donation boxes set up to aid the people of Palestine will begin at 18:00 hrs.
Zeena stated that members of Crowe Maldives LLP, appointed as independent auditors to ensure all funds received in the telethon are duly handed over to Palestine, will be active during the counting of donations.
"We estimate that a large amount will be received in donations after the fund boxes are counted," Zeena added.
A total of 13 donation boxes have been placed in the Male' region to collect funds for Palestine. These boxes are located in the Hiyaa Tower area of Hulhumale' Phase 2, Hulhumale' Hospital, Velana building area, State Trading Organization (STO) building area, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), ferry terminals, and STO supermarket area. A donation box has also been placed inside the Television Maldives (TVM) premises.
