A small group of people gathered tonight in front of what is believed to be the residence of a woman, who they claim, has maliciously sought funds from people by falsely claiming to have cancer.

The protestors were at the location, which is located near Asda Café in Malé City, for at least over an hour.

Maldives Police Service confirmed that they are aware of the situation. A unit has been deployed to the location for further investigation, the agency said.

"We have received information that the protests stem from a financial transaction which has taken place between two individuals," Police said, adding that they are looking into the necessary aspects of the matter further.

The protestors live streamed their demands on social media platform Tiktok. In the stream, they claimed that a woman was behind the scams and that the victim is someone she had a close relationship with, while still being married to another man.

According to them, the woman took MVR 300,000 form the man deceitfully, and had the funds deposited to her husband and younger sibling.
