Finland International School Maldives (FISM) follows a Finnish co-curriculum adapted to the Maldivian education system and currently offers classes from Grade 1 to Grade 10.
Finland International School Maldives (FISM) has officially opened its new 10-storey building last Thursday.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Education Dr Ahmed Mohamed, CEO and co-founder of Lighthouse Learning Group Prajodh Rajan Vikas Phadnis, board members, officials from Islanders Education and Lighthouse Learning Group, as well as various education professionals.
FISM stated that the opening of the new facility represents a major step forward in its operations and teaching approach. The school now boasts the largest classrooms and most advanced facilities ever established in a Maldivian school.
Principal Dr Eija Valanne emphasized that the new building plays a crucial role in achieving the school's goals and enhancing the learning experience. She highlighted that while a well-designed and fully equipped building is essential, the foundation of quality education lies in the curriculum and teachers.
At FISM, educators focus on ensuring students truly understand the syllabus rather than just covering it, she said.
The classrooms and furnishings were designed by a renowned Finnish company, in line with Finland’s standards in education infrastructure.
FISM is known for its student-centered approach, where learning extends beyond textbooks. It is the only school in South Asia with full International School Association (ISA) membership and the first in the Maldives to receive ISA accreditation.
The school follows a Finnish co-curriculum adapted to the Maldivian education system and currently offers classes from Grade 1 to Grade 10.
