A resolution calling for the government to shape its policies in line with the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP)'s manifesto has been submitted to the Parliament today.

The resolution was submitted by Ungoofaaru MP Mohamed Waheed, a prominent member of the Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's faction of the MDP.

In his resolution, MP Waheed highlighted that the party's regulation stipulates that the people have the power to determine policies and how they are executed in matters that affect the country.

The resolution said MDP had made its manifesto public in 2008, 2013 and 2018 prior to the presidential elections and that it was essential for the President and other politicians to adhere to it.

However, many of the government's policies are in direct contradiction with the fundamental principles outlined in the manifesto, creating concern and dissatisfaction among the public, according to the resolution.

The resolution calls on the government to realign its policies with the MDP manifesto to enhance fisheries, tourism, and guesthouse businesses, as part of the party's pledge to enhance living standards, housing, and income.

The government has not implemented the MDP's "Jazeera Manifesto." The President's Office previously stated that the government was following the manifesto agreed upon by the coalition parties, which also included the key values of the MDP manifesto.
