Former president Abdulla Yameen's wife and former first lady Fathimath Ibrahim officially joined the campaign efforts of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) coalition's candidate, Dr. Muizzu, starting from Monday evening, September 4.
The former first lady met with campaign teams at the coalition's main campaign hub near Alimas Carnival around 8:30 p.m., where she also interacted with several senior activists.
This marks the first time she is officially taking part in the coalition's campaign efforts since PNC decided to grant its presidential ticket to Dr. Muizzu. However, several close aides of Dr. Muizzu have said that his campaign efforts are proceeding with the direct aid and support of Yameen and his wife. The former first lady reportedly contacts individual campaign teams to provide instructions.
The former first lady's absence in Dr. Muizzu's campaign efforts has been a concerning topic among party sympathizers.
