Wellness Matters has planted more than 41,000 seeds in 42 islands to mark this year's Food Day.

The local NGO's "Plant a Tree" project marked World Food Day with a special tree planting program.

Wellness Matters said trees were planted in 40 islands from 20 atolls. According to the organization 345 members of the public, 32 schools and seven institutions participated in the event.

The NGO said 41,000 seeds donated were planted in 415 patches. They are entirely fruit and vegetable plant seeds.

Wellness Matters noted that Noonu Atoll Manadhoo gave special support to the movement with the tree planting activity being conducted in 300 households of the island.

“We were able to do this with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Gender and the Local Government Authority (LGA),” said Mirfath Faiz on behalf of Wellness Matters.

Mirfath highlighted the cooperation of the Ministry of Education involving schools in the event. She also thanked Deputy Minister of Education, Sharma Naseer for gracing the opening ceremony.

Wellness Matters was founded five years ago by Zulfa Naseer after she attended a wellness program in Malaysia. Her goal was to bring the positive change she found within herself to her friends and family while undergoing the program.

Wellness Matters activities include the 21 Day Fitness Challenge. The NGO also runs various social responsibility activities.
