Leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed, on Tuesday, referred to former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb as a "maggot" he, along with undefined others, introduced to Yameen's administration."

Speaking at the campaign rally of Ahmed Easa contesting for Kendhikulhudhoo constituency held in Kudafari, Noon Atoll, Nasheed stated that former President Yameen's administration was toppled due to MDP's efforts to weaken it. Furthermore, he described Adeeb as the agent introduced to trigger the downfall of Yameen's government.

"I realized there was an opportunity to introduce an effective maggot to President Yameen's cabinet, his administration could be weakened by creating discord within his government. By introducing the maggot, disputes were caused. That is a truth I always knew."

Additionally, Nasheed stated that he had expected Adeeb to continue to be extremely corrupt once appointed for the cabinet and that he believed Yameen fell for the trap.

"By then, our party's whip line had also been established. This is not something I should actually speak of. I do not understand why the people of Kudafari want to clarify this. I asked Easa to vote for Adeeb. To make him a minister. Adeeb became a minister thanks to Easa's vote. One vote", Nasheed explained.

Moreover, Nasheed disclosed that Easa had rejected Nasheed's request to vote in favour of Adeeb, and complained about it as well. The MDP leader stated that Easa had also mentioned the matter to Nasheed's wife Laila, expressing wishes to reject the recommendation.

However, Nasheed affirmed that Easa always heeded Nasheed's suggestions.

Former Vice President Abdulla Adeeb played a major role in the largest corruption scandal in Maldives history, carried out in Yameen's administration.
