The Sri Lankan media outlet 'Daily News' reported the arrest of nine Iranians in the seas off the Southern Coast of Sri Lanka on Sunday, three days after transferring 175 kilos of heroin onboard Maldivian vessels. .

The reports revealed that 107.22 kilos of drugs sealed within 99 bags of fertilizers were intercepted. However, the report claims approximately 500 kilos of heroin were dumped into the sea.

The Narcotics Bureau of Sri Lanka stated that the trawler began its journey from Karachi, Pakistan, 14 days prior to their arrest.

Sources to the 'Daily News' state the mastermind behind the heroin haul to be alleged crime lord Makandure Madush, who was arrested in Dubai, before being deported to Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

According to several Sri Lankan media outlets, Madush was bound to depart to Maldives immediately upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

Thus far, relevant authorities are yet to confirm charges against Madush.

Police Narcotics Bureau of Sri Lanka stated that investigations are ongoing, adding that they will seek assistance from the Iranian Embassy prior to interrogating the suspects.
