Maldives guarantees continued diplomatic relations with Pakistan

Vice President Faisal Naseem, on Saturday, guaranteed continued cooperation with Pakistan in mutually beneficial sectors, on both bilateral and regional levels as well as in the international arena.

Speaking at the reception held to mark the anniversary of Pakistan Day, Vice President Faisal also expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government for its prominent contribution to furthering socio-economic development in Maldives.

March 23, marked as Pakistan Day, commemorates the Lahore Resolution, passed in 1940, and the adoption of Pakistans's first constitution in 1956.

During the speech, Vice President Naseem expressed confidence that Maldives and Pakistan would continue to cooperate in order to strengthen regional co-operation and to ensure the prosperity, safety and stability of South Asia and the Indian Ocean region.

Vice President Naseem also reiterated the Maldivian government's commitment to enhancing the long-standing history of cooperation between the two states to secure higher standards of living for their citizens.

Highlighting that Maldives and Pakistan have maintained formal diplomatic ties for more than fifty years, Vice President Naseem stated that the strong bilateral relations stem from common culture, shared Islamic faith, as well as mutual respect and understanding.
