National Pay Commission, on Wednesday, revealed that they were reviewing the changes to be brought in order to implement equal pay and allowances between all civil servants.

A statement issued by the commission disclosed that amendments to the salary structure will be made based on the counsel of foreign experts.

National Pay Commission is currently conducting studies to best accomplish the guidelines set by National Pay Policy Act. The commission compiled a manual, titled the Maldives Public Service Standard Classification of Occupation, distributing all state professions and appointments accordingly.

Additionally, a research was carried out to determine the differences in salaries, allowances, and retirement benefits of government authorities.

Moreover, the Pay Commission created a classification framework of all the presidential committees, commissions and boards, as well as councils and the parliament.

The commission also devised a policy outlining the salaries and allowances for employees involved in state-run projects under government loans and free aid.

National Pay Commission was established in 2016, during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's administration.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed new members to the commission in January, 2019.
