Maldives Police Service, on Sunday, arrested eight Bangladeshis who were producing and distributing liquor on a large scale from a residence in capital Male'.
This is the first time that a large number of individuals were arrested with numerous batches of home-brewed liquor in Male'.
Police seized a total of 888 bottles, each holding 500 ml of suspected alcohol, from the scene described as a liquor "factory".
Additionally, six plastic bottles each with a capacity of five litres were seized, along with 14 large containers, also filled with alcohol.
Police spokesperson stated that the Bangladeshi nationals aged between 21 and 33 were arrested in the operation conducted by Drug Enforcement Department on the night of March 17.
Recently, many arrests have been made by Maldives Police Service for possession and distribution of illegal narcotic substances and alcohol.
Over the past few months, a total of 52 individuals were detained after drug busts at three different locations. All detainees were Maldivians except one individual.
