Police 4 arrest in Kalaidhoo drug bust

The police searched oil tanker en route to Kalaidhoo, Laamu Atoll and arrested four locals who were in possession of suspected narcotic substances.

Police officers stationed in Gan, Laamu Atoll conducted the court sanctioned operation upon receiving intel that drugs were being smuggled into Kalaidhoo.

The four individuals arrested in the drug bust were men of ages 20, 22, 26 and 36. It is unknown whether the men were passengers or crew of the oil tanker.

The oil tanker was inspected upon entry into Kalaidhoo’s harbour. Police revealed that suspicious substances were found in emptied film canisters and small plastic packets.

The Kalaidhoo drug operation took place during a time when the police are making many drug and alcohol-related arrests. Recently, 50 individuals arrested after three residences were searched with the aid of 'Faaragema', Canine Unit of the Maldives Police Service.
