The High Court on Tuesday, concluded the hearing of detained former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's case of appeal over his remand behind closed doors.

The Court is yet to announce the verdict on the matter.

Additionally, the appeal regarding the freezing of over MVR 100 million in Yameen’s bank accounts is currently in court. The verdict of the case was scheduled to be delivered last Thursday, but this hearing was cancelled due to administrative issues.

The Criminal Court on February 19, ordered to remand Yameen, who faces money laundering charges, until the end of his trial. He is detained in Maafushi Prison's Special Protection Unit.

The cells in the Special Protection Unit feature an air-conditioned room, corridor and backyard, with amenities including a bed with a soft mattress, wardrobe, refrigerator, automatic washing machine, and hot water in the bathroom.

Inmates in the Special Protection Unit are also served specially-made meals, and are allocated a region for exercise. Furthermore, MCS closely observe the healthcare and medical needs of the inmates.
