President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday announced governments five-year plan worth MVR 5.3 billion plan for Addu City.
The President is currently visiting Addu along with former President Mohamed Nasheed and other leading members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
While speaking at a gathering held to campaign for MDP members who will be contesting for the Parliament from Addu, President Solih said that Addu is a very special place.
President Solih noted that apart from capital Male', Addu has the highest chances for development and so the government would work to do that.
He went on to state that once the entire project is complete, Addu will show advance developments.
* Develop a 17-kilometre road
* Increase tourist beds up to 8,000
* Increase land
* Develop Addu Port to international standards
* Develop a fishing harbour and processing facilities
* Resolve issues faced in providing stable electricity
* Built a sports complex
* Build a swimming pool and football stadium
* Develop the biggest drug rehabilitation centre
* Social housing project
* Develop an Islamic Center with a mosque capable of accommodating 2000 people
* Generate sustainable income from natural resources
* Develop UNESCO standard heritage sites in protected areas
"My role is to facilitate the funds, resources and the constitutional power needed for these projects," said President Solih
He stated that for this year itself, MVR 170 million was allocated from the state budget to develop roads, harbours, land reclamation and other projects.
