Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Tuesday, called for more lenient visa regulations for Maldivians living in Malaysia.
Minister Shahid made his request at a meeting with Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Saifuddin bin Abdullah, during his visit to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.
The Foreign Ministry revealed that Minister Shahid congratulated Malaysia on its return to a democratic country, stating that it was an encouraging move for Maldivians.
Additionally, Minister Shahid also met with senior officials of other countries, including Italy, Indonesia and Morocco.
The minister's request comes amidst concerns raised by many Maldivians regarding the difficulty to obtain visas with the stricter regulations posed by the Malaysian government in order to strengthen their visa policy.
