The Anti-Corruption Commission, on Thursday, guaranteed that remaining questions regarding the MVR 1.3 million embezzlement scandal of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations (MMPRC) would be answered after further investigations are conducted.

ACC's Vice President Muawwiz Rasheed spoke during a program broadcasted by Public Service Media (PSM) and revealed that the corruption watchdog was carrying out additional investigations in five aspects related to the report.

According to Muawwiz ACC would look into the respective roles the Bank of Maldives (BML) and the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) played in the corruption. Additionally, Muawwiz stated that ACC would investigate how state funds had been transferred to SOF Pvt Ltd and loaned out to third parties in dollars.

Despite the ongoing investigations, Muawwiz emphasized that ACC was still the organization to have conducted and published the most detailed report regarding the largest case of corruption currently on record in Maldives.

ACC came under harsh criticism after it publicized a report of more than 700 pages regarding the MMPRC corruption case on February 14. Many have claimed that crucial information was omitted from the report and that only negligible measures, if any, had been taken against individuals implicated in the case.

The corruption watchdog has also come under fire for concealing the MMPRC report while the investigation had concluded in 2017.

ACC's Vice President defended the commission, stating that the report had been sent to relevant state authorities which were requested to take adequate measures.

Muawwiz explained that ACC delayed releasing the report to the public because doing so could potentially interfere with further investigations.

Despite the past delay, Muawwiz assured that ACC would exert efforts to conclude ongoing investigations and publish finding as swiftly as possible.

Furthermore, Muawwiz stated that ACC's mandate was not influenced by the identities of those serving in prominent positions and that the commission was operating in compliance with set regulations.
