Two people were arrested in relation to the mugging that occurred in capital city Male on Wednesday.
According to the police, the two suspects aged 26 and 30 had threatened a pedestrian with a sharp object in Maafannu ward.
The two men had stolen USD 840. The investigation is still ongoing.
This incident is the second case of a mugging with a sharp object that occurred in Male within the week.
Mugging has also become prevalent in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale. However, Maldives Police Service have not disclosed details regarding the thefts to media yet.
Previously, a courier of Expert Motor Services was mugged at knifepoint by three men in Male on Monday. The three men travelling on two motorbikes snatched more than MVR 560,000 from the courier, who was delivering the money to the company's office.
Nevertheless, no arrests have been made in relation to this incident.
