Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid met with Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, and Ambassador of the United States to Maldives, Alice G. Wells on Wednesday.
During the meeting held at the US Department of State, Minister Shahid and Ambassador Wells discussed the reformation of the judicial sector and the upcoming parliamentary elections in April.
Additionally, they discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the Maldives and US.
Moreover, discussions were also held about the cooperation initiatives planned by the US government in 2019, to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries in areas such as aviation security, public financial management, counter-terrorism and violent extremism.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of the Maldives to the US Ali Naseer Mohamed and Director and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shiuneen Rasheed accompanied Minister Shahid during this meeting.
