The 25-story Dharumavantha Hospital in capital Male will officially open and provide services in April.

Construction on Dharumavantha Hospital started during President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's regime due to the shortage of space and other difficulties faced in providing services from Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The project to construct the largest building was awarded to Singapore company Chung Hwa on June 5, 2016. The company was given MVR 2.2 billion to complete the construction works within two years.

But the hospital, which is an extension of IGMH was not completed on the given deadlines.

According to IGMH, the delay was caused due to companies assigned with providing equipmets not meeting deadlines.

Spokesperson for IGMH Mohamed Mufeed spoke to local media Mihaaru and revealed that initially services will be provided from the first four floors of the building.

However, in the initial plan for opening scheduled for July 2018, six floors were set to be used.

"All the equipments necessary to start services have been installed. It is estimated that services will commence in April," said Mufeed.

Dharumavantha will begin services with OPD, x-ray, MRI, Physiotherapy, ENT, Ophthalmology department and Dental department. Once the hospital is officially open, consultations and other services like x-ray will be provided from there.

IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital is connected via a walkway and IGMH assures that patients will face no difficulties in acquiring services.
