Elections Commission (EC) opened candidacy applications for the upcoming Parliamentary Election, on Monday night.

The electoral watchdog's president, Ahmed Shareef, made the announcement at the ceremony held to inaugurate the new logo and official colour of EC.

Shareef assured that the parliamentary election, slated for April 6, would be transparent and just. He called on all state institutions to give their full cooperation to ensure a free and fair election.

"With the cooperation from all state institutions, from the Civil Service Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission to independent institutions and government offices, we can hold the transparent and fair election that the people wish to see".

Shareef stated that all administrative preparations for the election are almost complete. He further revealed that the EC has reported budget problems to the authorities, and expressed hopes that the commission would receive the additional funds needed for the election.

However, he did not disclose the deadline to submit applications.
