The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, met with members of the United States’ (US) National Security Council on Thursday.
Minister Shahid is currently on an official visit to the US, United Kingdom (UK) and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
On his official visit to the US, he discussed matters relating to security of the Maldives, and avenues for joint cooperation.
The foreign ministry revealed that Shahid is scheduled to meet with the Secretary-General of the United Nations at the UN Security Council in New York.
Shahid's first visit on this official trip was to the UAE.
Following the visit to USA, the envoy will travel to the UK.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN and Ambassador to the United States, Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, and First Secretary at the Maldives Mission in New York, Ahmed Nasir.
