MDP guarantees free and fair Primary Election

Vice President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Shifaz, on Wednesday, guaranteed that the primary elections slated for Friday would be free and fair.

During a press conference, Shifaz stated that the party is currently conducting activities to ensure that the election is peaceful and transparent.

“We issued a notice in advance for the application for the candidates. The candidates’ handpicked observers and representatives are allocated to represent the boxes of different areas in order to maintain peace at the primaries. A top official has been assigned to each box,” said Shifaz.

According to Shifaaz, MDP is trying to resolve the issues faced during elections over the past 13 years since the establishment of MDP.

MDP Election Committee’s Chairperson Mohamed Ibrahim Manik, requested to maintain peace during the day of the primaries.

“...MDP elections is one of the biggest events held in Maldives,” said Manik. “Many people will be gathered at location", said Manik,"We hope the primaries will end in a friendly yet competitive manner,”

With a total of 280 candidates competing, the MDP primary will be the largest internal elections held in Maldivian history. There are 86,091 eligible voters and 270 voting booths stationed across the Maldives.
