Shaheem has officially begun work at OIC

Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed officially began work as advisor to the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Corporation (OIC), on Sunday. Shameen announced in December of his decision to join OIC in January. Shaheem is now residing in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where the OIC headquarters is located.

Prior to his departure on December 10, Shaheem guaranteed on Facebook that he would continue to work for the benefit of Maldives and its state religion, Islam. Furthermore, he stated that he would make frequent visits back to his home country.

Shaheem had previously assured that he would maintain the bond to Maldives despite shifting his place of residence to Jeddah.

Aditionally, Shaheem said that he is committed to securing aid for the benefit of Maldives, its citizens, education centres and state religion.

In addition to serving as the Chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), Shaheem was also the former Minister of Islamic Affairs. In the presidential election held on September 23, Shaheem was the running mate of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in his bid for re-election.

The OIC was formed in 1969 with the aim of protecting the interests of the Muslim world and promoting international harmony. The organisation currently has 57 member states.

The current Secretary-General of OIC is Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen who had visited Maldives in 2018.
