Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) assigned Colonel Abdulla Zuhury as the Commanding Officer of the Presidential Guard.

Colonel Zuhury was previously filling the role of Commanding Officer for MNDF's Fire and Rescue.

Following this appointment, several other changes were brought within MNDF.

The previous Commanding Officer of the Presidential Guard, Ibrahim Rasheed, was appointed as the Commanding Officer for the Southern Area. His predecessor, Colonel Abdulla Ibrahim, was appointed as the Commanding Officer for MNDF's Fire and Rescue.

In 2015, after the assassination attempt on then President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the Special Protection Group (SPG) in charge of the President's security was replaced by a special unit under the title of Presidential Guard.
