President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih established a special five-member committee, on Monday, to investigate issues related to the previous administration's controversial distribution of housing units.

The members appointed to the committee are:

1. Mohamed Muizzu Adnan (Former Minister of Defense)

2. Fathimath Saira

3. Nuzuha Aleem

4. Ahmed Tholal

5. Ali Shuhail Mohamed – Lawyer representing the Attorney General’s Office

According to the President's Office, the committee was assembled on December 19 in order to review the distribution of housing units.

In addition to verifying that all individual application requirements were met, the committee is also tasked with assessing whether the applicants were scored on a fair basis.

The President’s Office revealed that action will be taken, once those involved in the alleged corruption that took place within the allocation of flats under the government schemes, have been identified.

Further, the committee will reimburse damages made to individuals that completed payments to secure a place in the “Gulhifalhu Housing Project".

Investigating the allocation of housing by the former administration is one of President Solih’s key 100-day pledges.

The distribution of flats during the Former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s government raised concerns among the general public although the previous administration have maintained their stance that the flats were allocated fairly.
