Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with managing a MVR 126 million harbour expansion project in Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
The 5-month project is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and includes plans for a tourist area, an additional ferry terminal, a fish market and a waterfront zone to be used for recreational watersports.
According to the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure, the ferry terminal will be constructed with a ticket counter, a prayer room, a cafe, a mother's room, an office and a retail outlet. A fish market will be built to include bathrooms, transaction counters and a store.
The harbour expansion project is the new administration's first development project in Kulhudhuffushi.
Under the 2019 State Budget, funds are allocated for road development and the construction of a sports complex in Kulhudhuffushi. The Customs North Head Office will also be established on the island.
