Maldives moves to cut duty on agricultural equipment

Parliament member for the Maradhoo constituency Ibrahim Shareef, on Monday, proposed an amendment to the import and export law to abolish duties on agricultural supplies and equipment.

If the amendment is approved, all imported goods which are utilized in the process of producing agricultural products will be free of taxation.

According to Ibrahim Shareef, the purpose of the amendment is encouraging growth within the agricultural sector and facilitating economic development.

Abolishing taxes on agricultural supplies was one of the electoral pledges made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
