Parliament Speaker Qasim Ibrahim has stated the importance of exploring the reasons for all acts of corruption and bringing an end to it.
In a statement released by Qasim in connection to International Anti-Corruption Day 2018, he highlighted the importance of elimination and minimizing corruption in the Maldives. Additionally he pressed the matter of making this an integral focus of the country's future development.
According to Qasim, maintaining transparency in all government services and apt integrity with the people of the country is a way to minimize corruption and gain back the trust of the people in the new administration.
"Similar to other countries, corruption is the biggest threat that hinders the development of Maldives. One of the main reasons why the people of Maldives are not treated fairly is due to the extensive corruption that exists in the country," said Qasim.
Furthermore, Qasim also stated that all acts of corruption need to be investigated thoroughly. Offenders need to be held accountable for these acts and taken legal action against, he said.
