Newly-appointed Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi held her first official meeting with high ranking officials of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on Sunday.
According to an MNDF spokesperson, the main purpose of the meeting was to introduce the newly appointed minister to senior ranking officials.
Chief of Defence Force, Vice Chief of Defence Force, General Officers and Commanders all attended the gathering held at MNDF Headquarters Bandaara Koshi (BK) in the capital city, Male'.
While Mariya is the first female Defence Minister in Maldives, the 19-member cabinet sworn in on Saturday is the largest in Maldivian history, and features the highest proportion of female ministers thus far.
