President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced the implementation of a wellness-themed festival dubbed 'Dhulhaheyo Hashiheyo Eid' which loosely translates to 'A Healthy and Fit Celebration' on Tuesday.
During the news conference, Vice-President of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), Mohamed Shifaz stated that the wellness festival, with a strong emphasis on sports, will be held on November 18.
The event will commence between 1400 hours and 1800 hours, and again from 2000 hours till 2300 hours, across various locations in Male City.
"The purpose of this festival is to encourage people of all ages to develop and strive for a healthy and fit society," said MDP's Vice-Chairman Ali Niyaz.
Niyaz added that the event hopes to foster companionship among society.
"[The purpose is] to promote sports, to nurture the spirit of sports within the community and to increase overall interest in sporting activities"
A total of 17 associations and 15 NGOs are slated to participate in the festival. The event expects a turnout of approximately 5,000 participants.
