Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) reported that fishing has improved remarkably in the central areas of the archipelago recently, leading to several of MIFCO’s fishing crews to concentrate on the area.

In a press release, the state-run company stated that fishing vessels in the atolls of Lhaviyani and Meemu are weighing an average of four to six tonnes of fish daily. The number is expected to increase over the next few days.

MIFCO went on to note that the lack of the company’s operations in Meemu atoll has led to challenges in dispatching ice and boats to buy catch from that atoll. However, the company asserted their efforts to procure as much of the catch as possible.

MIFO also urges all large vessels in the Maldives to take advantage of the bountiful fishing currently available in the two atolls.
